ive been playing a lot of video games so I guess this took a while. longer songs like you asked for. kind of a sandwich between the basic sinatra type groans (with more detail like I did with timequalitydystrophy), more freeform crazy stuff like Wayfarer's 2AM and more scary spooky organic songs with better execution than weaveknee stuff. CRITIQUE PLEASE!!!

I tried remixing Clock Radio Coma (best track ever) but I JUST COULDN’T DO IT. I’m a listener not a CREATOR.

    CORKVEIN REVIEW
    TL;DR ALERT

    1. Breakmaster Cylinder – The Bloke Machine (Vaervaf Remix)

+This song is weird, as is this album. A good kind of weird that

makes you that this all means something.
+This remix sounds nothing like the source, you really
+Your vocals are mystical. Adds a wanted melody.
+The break at 2:48 was so nice, I wish you extended it.
-Almost too weird, you are straying away from your cutesy

“quirky” tracks with very bold identifyable melodies. I miss those

songs, but perhaps this album has more too offer

    4.5/5
BOTTOM LINE (>7 words): Fantastic, way different than original

    2. Wristband Gait

+You've always had good things to say when

    you are given a guitar.
+Bops and jives along on a cool path.
    +Hip hop-like backings fit perfectly.
+Simplest song on the album. Guitar set is on its own for the most part. Other samples are there for small assists.
-Pitchshifting gives this song a taste of cheesy-cheapness. I

can imagine you might have been scrambling for samples with this one,

therefore it was pretty much unavoidable, but it is what it is. Didn't

hurt this song too much and allowed you to keep it not boring.

    4.75/5
BOTTOM LINE: A real nice beat, eroded sound

    3. REGIONAL CHAMPS

+Vaervaf's first scratching inspired by yours truly haw haw
+Seriously detailed, extremely rewarding if you listen like Cyber Aly says.
+One of the loudest songs on this album of quiet midnight desert desserts.
+Even more detailed than the version I first heard oh so long

ago when you were still making Corkvein.
+You maintain steady rhythm detailed masterpieces. This is all

so similar to other artists. Your fans are so used to you shoving funny

melodies and stupid beats down their throats that they don't want you to

make it complicated. They don't want you to make them think. I'm not

even sure if this is still the case, but this is why people were getting

upset (asking for more Headcaged), I think.
+4:12 GOOD THING PLAN B NEVER FAILS AHAHAHA
+You make the whole “concentrating” (going back to what Cyber Aly said) thing easier with these fine refined beats. I can tap my foot to this on one end of my body and be running my brain in overclock mode to process all of this shit. It's a really good feeling. This album is genius if anything.
+Wind down at end of the song is seriously nice.
+Hahaha, right at the end. More MACHINININIMA references. Love ya.

    4.75/5
BOTTOM LINE: Loudest song on album, nice and rhythmic

    4. Clock Radio Coma

    +More abstract melodies.
+Milk, neigh. Mill, ache. Milk, fuck, ache.
+Kick goes well while the song is still loud.
-Kick seems wrong at 1:40ish. The kick itself seems to be a little dirty, has some excess noise that annoys me to the slightest.
-This one seems to be a little bit weak. Seems to die down and stay down. Its short lived life wasn't very well lived either.

    4/5
BOTTOM LINE: Weakish song, still impressive, still Vaervaf

    5. IN THE BASEMENT, WE MAKE BREACH CHARGES

+Definitely the loudest song on Corkvein. The loudness works, it's a very
    +Love those drums.
+Pan effects are abusive as I could expect from a Vaervaf song. lol
+I'm happy you are continuing with the IN THE BASEMENT series
-Nothing wrong here…other than it being the shortest diddy on the album. You only have one set going on in this one, so I can understand why.

    4/5
BOTTOM LINE: Catchiest song, and a fun listen

    6. Sig Varsette

+I like this one. First few listens dissapointed me, the bass seemed too cool for it to become something so weird.
+Great stuff going on I couldn't appreciate until I gave it a few listens.
    +1:24 love that piano.
-Does that fast repeat like from SPOOK ROB, DO YOU UH and I just plain dont like it all that much. Not necessarily a bad thing.

    4/5
BOTTOM LINE: Good song, don't like fast repeat

    7. Too Many Tongues

+Oh god this one. Definitely my favorite. A guilty pleasure.
+I can't get over that “I use” sample.
+By far the silliest thing on this album.
+I say it's a guilty pleasure because it isn't the best song on this album. It just has a special charm that lured me into a bubble bath of pre-chewed bubble gum that I can't get out of. Too sticky.
+This song is just a seriously nice experience. I love it more than I should, but I don't care.

    4.5/5
BOTTOM LINE: I use silly sets, funky rhythms

    8. Drywire Augment

+I hold this song as a better version of Clock Radio Coma. The two seem to be very similar, but this one just holds itself together better, while still being on its own set of railroad tracks.
+Vocals samples are as weird as ever, some too loud, some too quiet, some completely off on everything. It all works.
+The synthy string hit is a nice refreshment whenever you hit play start on it.
+Very progressive, much like the rest of this album.
+You stick to one set of strings, a very large set.

    4.5/5
BOTTOM LINE: Dreamy strings, lacks great beat, weird vocals

    9. My Prized Pedestrian

+The beats are real loud and crazy, I love them.
+The segment at 1:30. Vocal slicing is artful and used in moderation.
-This one seems like it could have been a little whiles longer, I'm a little bit confused why you didn't make it any longer.
-Beginning sounds pretty much identical to the beginnning of The Bloke Machine (Vaervaf Remix). Well, not identical, but too close for comfort.

    4/5
BOTTOM LINE: Not the weakest, could be longer

    10. Rob's Last Magazine

+Well, jeez. This thing is seriously good.
+An almost World feel with the drums. Seems like something people could dance to.
+The build-up in the middle is real abstract though, whole thing has a great beat though.
+You've been having a ton of fun with that transpose nob.

    4.75/5
BOTTOM LINE: Nice drums, sick slices, overwhelming detail

    CORKVEIN

+By far best album you've ever made. A sequel to Skidtooth, if you ask me. Both albums have fantastic overall structure, and with Corkvein you've really taken it up a notch. The detail in this album is just simply insane. You built a house, had 10 kids, named them, and cared about them all (almost) equally. There wasn't a star of the show with this album, a few tracks might stand out from the bunch as your refined do no wrong child prodigals, but there is no filler in here. This is album is a ride to choptrack heaven. Or hell.
-WAIT WHY ISN'T THIS LIKE HEADCAGED THIS SUCKS

    5/5
BOTTOM LINE: Fantastic album, you built worlds, galaxies

  5. OrangyJul 20th, 10

I disagree. This one was the hardest for me to pick up. Vaervaf is expecting a lot from us, I tell you.

  6. CyberAlyJul 19th, 10

You really have to concentrate to enjoy this album, I tried listening to it in the background and I just ended up forgetting everything i'd heard. If you concentrate, this is a rewarding album, with a few highlights. I imagine it's one that'll get better with repeated listens.

The nice thing is that every track has secrets to reveal upon repeated listens, and the 'not too short' length of the tracks means that you never feel underwhelmed when you do grasp them.

It's certainly an interesting experience. I guess it refines your sound without really adding too much new. I can't decide if it's better as a whole or in chunks, but it definitely hangs together as an album better than your previous releases, maybe because there's just 10 tracks. On this occasion, I think that's a good thing, i'm not quite as daunted by the task of processing it.

The only complaint I would make is that maybe shit needs to be changed up a bit next time, I don't really know HOW, but… You know, I can just select your name in my iTunes library and hit shuffle, and I could be listening to any of your albums. I mean some albums have a theme that stands out like Weaveknee has a unique sound, organic, whatever you want to call it. Headcaged is probably the most direct album… I would say this album is the most “evolving” album you've made.

So no conclusions really, but I hope the comments helped. This is a good album.

i listened once and don't remember anything
    but it was good

  9. OrangyJul 16th, 10

you dont have to admit it

  10. Firefox7fromrobloxJul 16th, 10

I have to admit. This was pretty good.

  11. mrSimonJul 15th, 10

The BMC song is a Vaervaf remix. I must look into a revised artist display so that the (Vaervaf remix) part isn't cut off.

  12. Ninjatastic BreakbeatJul 15th, 10

Yay free BMC song included lol

  13. Lucky OddyJul 15th, 10

This is your most accessible album yet. I loved it. The textures and rhythms woven into this tapestry of sound are things of beauty. This one is gonna stick with me.

  14. MegaWatt ManJul 12th, 10

    Wristband gait is sooooo good

  15. OrangyJul 12th, 10
